Reflections From Sunday

This past Sunday @GFchurch we continued our series where we are looking at the functions of the church and our calling in life as believers in Jesus Christ. Zach Snow, shared with us a message on evangelism. If you were unable to attend service or would like to hear the message again, you can catch it on GatewayTV. Here are the scriptures that Zach shared used in his message::

Deuteronomy 30:11-20 (New American Standard Bible)

11"For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach.

12"It is not in heaven, that you should say, '(A)Who will go up to heaven for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?'

13"Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, 'Who will cross the sea for us to get it for us and make us hear it, that we may observe it?'

14"But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it.
Choose Life
15"See, (B)I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity;

16in that I command you today (C)to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you (D)may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it.

17"But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them,

18I declare to you today that (E)you shall surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess it.

19"(F)I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, (G)the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

20(H)by loving the LORD your God, by obeying His voice, and (I)by holding fast to Him; (J)for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in (K)the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them."

Romans 10:1-15 (New American Standard Bible)
Romans 10
The Word of Faith Brings Salvation
1Brethren, my heart's desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation.

2For I testify about them that they have (A)a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.

3For not knowing about (B)God's righteousness and (C)seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

4For (D)Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to (E)everyone who believes.

5For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law (F)shall live by that righteousness.

6But (G)the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: "(H)DO NOT SAY IN YOUR HEART, 'WHO WILL ASCEND INTO HEAVEN?' (that is, to bring Christ down),

7or 'WHO WILL DESCEND INTO THE (I)ABYSS?' (that is, to (J)bring Christ up from the dead)."

8But what does it say? "(K)THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,

9that (L)if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and (M)believe in your heart that (N)God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

10for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

11For the Scripture says, "(O)WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."

12For (P)there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is (Q)Lord of (R)all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;

13for "(S)WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

14How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him (T)whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without (U)a preacher?

15How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "(V)HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO (W)BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!"

This Sunday, October 17th, we will be looking at Fellowship. We will be discussing our identification(fellowship) with the Father as believers in Jesus Christ, as well as our call towards biblical community. The Gospel of Jesus has to be at the center of everything that we do.

We have some big events coming up in the life of our church. We are now in the preparation stages of putting our neighborhood block parties together. We will also be pushing out some information regarding a Gateway Community Day, as well as many other opportunities to embrace the community around us. One of the big things we need your help with is gathering candy for the Royse City "Trick or Treat on Main Street" community event that will be held on Wednesday, October 27th.

......Don't forget about our discussion about Spiritual Disciplines. We hope you decide to pick one (or more) of these to begin training this week......
