It Costs Something

It costs something to be a true Christian. Let that never be forgotten. To be a mere nominal Christian, and go to church, is cheap and easy work. But to hear Christ’s voice, follow Christ, believe in Christ, and confess Christ, requires much self-denial. It will cost us our sins, our self-righteousness, our ease, and our worldliness. All- all must be given up. We must fight an enemy who comes against us with thousands of followers. We must build a tower in troubled times. Our Lord Jesus Christ would have us thoroughly understand this. He bids us “count the cost.”

Surrendering

Surrendering Your Family For Christ
RightNow Conference
@afshinziafat

Hebrews 13:7

Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.

You are the leaders of your family
---- speak the Word of God into your families
---- put others before yourself

Hebrews 13:8-9

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
9 Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them.

----leave behind the love of this world and embrace Jesus

Hebrews 13:13

Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured.

Don't make treasures out of things of this world. Embrace the treasure of Christ over everything that the world offers

Does your life match up to want you've been called to?

If we are going to teach surrender to our family, you must model it

They will imitate your faith. Is your faith something that should be imitated by others? What do your children see in you.

The outcome of your life has to match what you're saying

Missional Discipleship

Missional Discipleship

@pastoremase

Romans 8:29

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Mission
- we are to look more like Jesus Christ

Missional Discipleship

Major obstacles
1. Unhealthy individuality ( Prov. 18:1 )
2. Renegade philosophy of life ( Titus 1:10 )
3. Frustration with the local church
4. Unhealthy expectations of discipleship
5. Discipleship Idolatry ( 1 Cor 1 )
6. Unhealthy expectations of the discipler
7. Unclear definition of discipleship (how do we make disciples)
8. Reductionistic view of discipleship
9. Many pastors have never really experienced ( true discipleship )
10. Not an emphasis in many churches

A disciple of Jesus Christ is one who has renounced him/herself and has pledged their life to being in a lifetime apprenticeship to The Lord Jesus Christ ( Matt 10:39 )

Missional defined:
The identity of the people of God by which we live out our nature as God's ambassadors to the world in which we join Him inHis effort to reach people

Discipleship has to be:

From the inside out

1. Develop a Christian Worldview ( 1 Cor 2:14-16 )
- how do we do this?

---- spiritual formation
a. regeneration
b. prayer
c. Biblical assimilation
d. redemptive community

---- Biblical theology
a. implantation (James 1:21 )
b. transformation ( Romans 12:1-2 )
c. discernment ( 1 Cor 2:15 )

---- practical ministry
a. missional ( Col 4:2-6 )
b. application ( Heb 5:14 )
c. reproduction ( Matt 28: 18-20 )

Characteristics of Repentance

The Characteristics of Repentance
Psalm 51
RightNow Conference
@pastoremase

1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Have mercy on me O god
- throw yourself on the character of God
- call on the characteristic of God that you need
... Don't give me what I deserve
... End the challenging state that I'm in

You need to know that in the darkest area of your life, God has wiped you clean of some sin

To your abundant mercy
- according to your covenant keeping and your loyalty
- fully own the extent of your sin ( For I know my transgressions )

David was clear about the rebelliousness of his heart
- he had rebelled against the authority of God

The repentant understands the shrapnel and collateral damage that their sin cause to those around them

Confession without repentance is emotional abuse

You must understand the holiness of God
- repentance reminds us of the holiness of God
- He is the ultimate judge ( so that you may be justified )

The repentant person longs for real transformation

Gospel-centeredness

What Gospel-centeredness is All About and Why It's So Easy to Get Wrong
RightNow Conference
@jdgreer

Our core problem is a worship problem (idolatry)
Romans 1: 21-23

21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools,
23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Until the change happens inside you're only bending metal
Until we change what we worship we won't change

"If you worshipped your way into sin, you have to worship your way out" Paul David Tripp

Romans 12: 1-2

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

"We are changed by revelation not exhortation"

Change comes from a heart that has been captivated by the Gospel

2 Corinthians 3: 18

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Titus 2: 11-12

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,
12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

John 8: 11

She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more."
-acceptance before change!

Gods generosity for us creates generosity in us

It is not a new revelation of "do" it's truly understanding the glory of that which has already been "done" - #walkNthat

The Gospel - it's done
In light of this good news, you become what has already been done

Empower leadership. .....Own/catalyze/bless
Send leadership

3. Guidance in the mission comes from the Spirit

4. Motivation for mission comes from the gospel
