Reflections From Sunday

This week we covered part4 of our series on The Lord's Prayer as found in Matthew 6: 9-13

9"Pray, then, in this way:
'Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10'Your kingdom come
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
11'Give us this day our daily bread.
12'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]'

We looked at verse 12 where it states, "And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors". This portion of this prayer has 2 parts. The first part is "forgive us" and the second is "as we forgive". We have a Biblical mandate to "forgive others, just as we have been forgiven". We have to also realize that sin deserves death and therefore, needs forgiveness. It is God alone who forgives and His forgiveness is an act of His grace. Sin must be repented of. As believers in Christ, we are free and our relationship is put right, we are "justified". God's method of justification is forgiveness as He "forgives us our trespasses".
